The Lady Sings Jazz

About Suzy Jacoby - The Lady Sings Jazz

Suzy is a renowned jazz vocalist whose celebrated live shows continue to enthral both audiences and critics. Suzy's performances have attracted acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, and she has been hailed as one of the most innovative talents in the genre. Producer Paul Johnston, who debuted Suzy on his "The Rhythm Method 2" album, noted recently that she "creates music which is at turns inspired, fun, cool, sexy and moving."

Suzy was raised in the world of music: her grandfather was an accomplished violinist, touring Europe in the 1930s, and she began her career early, performing with the Latin band, Luna Negra, while still a teenager. "Her first show was effortless," recalls Negra's publicist, Tom Michael. "She breathed energy into every lyric." Later, Suzy teamed up with Alex Steele, internationally acclaimed pianist, whose recent performances include BBC Radio 3's Jazz Line Up, and the duo played their first gig at the Cheltenham Film Studios.

Later, Suzy was invited to return to the West Country to join the Cheltenham International Jazz Festival. "I try to produce sounds that will please all kinds of audiences," she told the Gloucestershire Echo at the time. "I want both purists and those who are perhaps strangers to jazz to enjoy each show. We always focus on eliciting a variety of emotions in our audience, getting their feet and fingers tapping one moment, with a really joyous number, then drawing them into something soulful and moving. I like creating that tapestry of sounds."

In her late teens, Suzy worked with blue band, Two Tones Blue, where she focused on re-interpreting classic blues numbers. Later, she turned as a solo artist, performing in the jazz club "Martuni's" in San Fransisco, at a celebrity wedding in Portugal, as a special guest singer an the Manly Wharf Hotel in Sydney, and at venues across the United Kingdom.

Today, as The Lady Sings Jazz, Suzy Jacoby is one of the most sought after female vocalists, appearing regularly at venues across the country.
